Explain me the Waggle dance of honey bees.

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
Waggle dance is performed by bees to communicate the location of food. Waggle dance includes waggle and return phase. While performing these phases they form the structure of eight. They first go straight moving their belly speedly then followed by right turn forming semicircle and then left turn forming another semi circlr. The direction and duration of waggle dance shows the direction and distance of food location. If flower is lined up with the sun then they perform their waggle run in the upward direction with respect to the vertical comb. The duration of waggle dance tells about the distance of source of food from the comb. If flower is lined at some angle with the sun then they form the same angle with respect to the upward direction of the vertical comb. If rapid dance is performed it shows that the bees are excited about the food location. If multiple bees are performing waggle dance then it shows competition for following the location of food.
