Question

Liquids do not have enough kinetic energy to break out of the boundary of its mass which gives it definite volume but not definite shape. Explain.

Solution

Liquids have definite mass and definite volume. But they don't have definite shape. The particles of liquid are not so far apart, as a result they possess less molecular interaction compared to solid but more than that of gas. Their kinetic energy is not that much high so as to move far apart. That is why they have definite volume not definite shape.
