It became instrumental because large scale germs and viruses were used to conquer these lands .As,these lands had no mechanism to boost their immunity through medicines they fell easy prey for these disease caused by germs and viruses which wiped most of the populations from these lands hence paving an easy way to get conquered by foreigners.
