Question: In below lines if xylem are young they should be consist of living cells then why it is a part of apoplast ??
"In young roots, water enters directly into the xylem vessels and/or tracheids. these are non-living conduits and so are parts of the apoplast."

Dear student,

Young or old xylem (vessels, tracheids and xylem fibres) are made up of dead cells. Apoplast includes the cell wall and extracellular spaces, therefore it is also non living part of plant body.
