Question

Why diffusion takes place faster when two gases are brought in contact with each other?

Open in App
Solution

Diffusion is the process by which molecules intermingle as a result of their kinetic energy of their random motion. In gases, intermolecular distance between molecule is very large as the intermolecular forces are weak, so, when molecules of other gas come in contact with them, they get into the space between molecules of the previous gas and mix up easily, and therefore, diffusion occurs.
