why is there no surface tension in gases?

Surface tension is defined as the tension on the surface of a liquid due to the cohesive force on the molecules of the surface. It results from the force of attraction between the molecules of the liquid.
Surface tension is concerned with only liquid as gases do not have free surfaces.
