Let x students attended the picnic.

Expenses per student = Rs 96x

No. of students who were supposed to be there on the picnic = x+4

In such case, the cost per student would have been = Rs 96(x+4)

With the difference in cost being Rs 2, we can write the equation as 96x96x+4=2

On solving, we get x = -16 (not possible since no. of students cannot be negative) or x = 12
