Students of class VII went to a picnic and spent Rs 96 on snacks. Since four of them skipped the picnic, the remaining students had to contribute Rs 2 extra. The number of students attending the picnic was:
12
Let x students attended the picnic.
Expenses per student = Rs 96x
No. of students who were supposed to be there on the picnic = x+4
In such case, the cost per student would have been = Rs 96(x+4)
With the difference in cost being Rs 2, we can write the equation as 96x−96x+4=2
On solving, we get x = -16 (not possible since no. of students cannot be negative) or x = 12
