(i) Identify the stage by suitable example.

(ii) Name the parts numbered 1 and 2.

(iii) What is the technical term for the division of nucleus?

(iv) Mention the stage that comes before the stage shown in the diagram. Draw a neat labelled diagram of the stage mentioned.

(v) Which is the cell division that results in the half the number of chromosomes in daughter cells?

Solution

(i)

The stage shown above is “Telophase”.

  1. The final stage of cell division is telophase.
  2. During telophase, the nuclear envelopes in each dividing cell reform around the new nuclei.

(ii)

1. Chromosome

  • Chromosomes are thick rod-like structures in the nucleus that contain genes.

2. Nuclear membrane

  • The membrane of a nucleus is called the nuclear membrane.

(iii)

The technical term for the division of the nucleus is Karyokinesis.

(iv)

The stage that comes before the stage shown in the diagram is Anaphase.

Anaphase is the fourth phase of mitosis, the process by which a parent cell's duplicated genetic material in the nucleus is separated into two identical daughter cells.

(v)

The cell division that results in half the number of chromosomes in daughter cells is Meiosis.
