Study the following model with which the transpiration mechanism in plants can be demonstrated. With which structure of the plant do you compare each of the following?
(i) Sponge
(ii) Glass tube filled with water.

The sponge is comparable to the leaf and the pores in it act as stomata from which transpiration is occurring. This pulls the water in the tube.
The glass tube with water is comparable to the xylem tissue which is showing ascent of sap aided by transpiration pull.
