Tapetum is the innermost layer of anther which possesses dense cytoplasm and are often multinucleated. The unusually large nuclear constitution and nutrient rich cytoplasm of the tapetum helps it in providing nutrients and regulatory molecules to the forming pollen grains. In a cross section of the megasporangium or an ovule, the stalk of the ovlue is called the funicle which is attached to the ovary wall and the region at which the funicle is attached to the ovule is called the hilum. In a majority of water plants like water hyacinth and water lily, flowers emerge above the water level and are pollinated by insects. The PEN (primary endosperm nucleus) is formed on fusion between haploid sperm and the diploid cental nucleus in the embryo sac thus the PEN is triploid.
