In Pistia, the stem is modified to an offset which helps in vegetative propagation. The offsets here grow in all directions from the main stem of the parent plant. If any accidental injury results in the separation of these units, each is capable of leading an independent existence thus acting as units for vegetative propagation. Tendrils in pea are modified leaves and not stems. Opuntia has a flattened modified stem called phylloclade which contains chlorophyll and can perform photosynthesis.
