As per the graph, the number of girls per thousand boys is seemingly less, indicating an unfavourable sex ratio.
The sex ratio is defined as the number of females per 1000 males.​
There is a significant gap in the sex ratio between men and women in India due to many reasons.

The reasons for the gap in the sex ratio between men and women in India are:

• Young girls in some families do not receive enough nutritional food and cannot survive when they meet with any disease.
• Girl children in a few other families face discrimination. For example, they do not receive proper medical treatment when needed.
• Another reason for the decrease in the proportion of girls is foeticide, a practice in which the sex of the foetus is decided before its birth, and if it is determined to be a female, it terminates in the womb. This also implies that technological innovation allows parents to choose to have solely male children.
