Solution

Sublimation:

  • The process in which a solid substance directly changes from solid to gas or gas to solid on heating is known as sublimation.
  • For example on heating camphor, it changes directly to the gaseous state.
  • If camphor vapours are cooled, they change back to the solid crystalline state.
  • Sublimation of camphor into vapour form and changing of vapours back to the solid form is a temporary and reversible change.
  • There is no change in the chemical properties of camphor in its solid (crystalline) and vapour form.

Therefore, Sublimation is a change in a substance from solid-state to a gas state.
