Solution

Hydrated Substances:

  • Substances that contain water of crystallization in them are referred to as hydrated substances.

Examples:

  • Magnesium sulphate (MgSO4.7H₂O): Epsom salt
  • Ferrous sulphate (FeSO4.7H₂O): Green vitriol
  • Copper (II) sulphate (CuSO4.5H₂O): Blue vitriol
  • Calcium sulphate (CaSO, 2H₂O): Gypsum

Anhydrous Substances:

  • Substances that do not contain water of crystallization in them are referred to as anhydrous substances.
  • For instance, when we heat copper sulphate crystals (CuSO4.5H₂O), the water molecules will get evaporated.
  • The remaining salt without water is referred to as anhydrous salt. Now the anhydrous salt's formula will be CuSO4.
