Since the additive inverse of (–2) is +2, the given expression can be written as 12 + 2.
As the signs of both the numbers are the same, we will add the two numbers.
12 + 2 = 14
The magnitude 12 is bigger than 2. So, we will give 14 the sign of +12, i.e., the positive sign.
∴ 12 – (–2) = +14
