Since the additive inverse of (–30) is +30, 55 – (–30) can be written as 55 + 30.
Since the signs of both the numbers are the same, we will add the two numbers.
55 + 30 = 85
The magnitude 55 is bigger than 30. So, we will give 85 the sign of +55, i.e., the positive sign.
∴ 55 – (–30) = +85
