Question

Suddenly, it hit Jack. He realized that he still in past. What went wrong? His AYC (Analog Year Counter) calculated the median of the all the inputs to it and travelled to that year. Jack remembered that when he finally checked everything, the port of AYC was open. Then he realized that some random stranger must have entered some random values into it. What a small thing to miss!

According to the given data set of future years, which might be Jack in then?

Solution

The correct option is C

1770

Let us arrange the observations first.

1680 1700 1720 1740 1760 1780 1800 1820 1840 1860

Since no. of observations is 10, an even number, there will be two middle terms. So, the median will be the average the (102)th and (102+1)th terms

So, median = 1760 + 17802 = 1770.

Jack might be in year 1770.
