Question

Sudesh is twice as old as Seema. If six years subtracted from Seema's age and four years added to Sudesh's age, Sudesh will be four times Seem's age. How old were they three years ago?

Solution

Suppose Seema's age is x.
Then Sudesh'w age is 2x.
If 6 years are subtracted from Seema's age we get x -6 and if 4 years are added to Sudesh's age we get 2x+4
So we are given that 2x+4 = 4(x-6) => 2x+4 = 4x-24
=> 4x-2x= 4+24
=> 2x = 28
=> x = 14
=> Sudesh' age = 2x = 28
So current ages of Seema and Sudesh are 14 years and 28 years.
So 3 years ago Seema was 11years and Sudesh was 25 years
