Question

Suggest a possible way to make detergents biodegradable

Open in App
Solution

Detergents cannot be degraded by microbes in soil due to their complex branched structure. So if a detergent can be made with linear structure it will be easily degraded and it is biodegradable detergent. An example is the detergent formed between polyethylene glycol and stearic acid is straight line detergent without any branches. It is popularly used in dishwashers and it is biodegradable.
