Suggest a suitable physical situation for each of the following graphs (Fig 3.22):

The graph (a) shows a sudden increase and then decrease in the velocity in the opposite direction. It is similar to the situation when a footballer kicks a football that is at rest in front of a vertical wall. As the ball is kicked, its velocity suddenly increases. When the ball strikes on the wall, it bounces back to the opposite direction with decreasing velocity. After some instant the ball comes to rest.

In the graph (b), the sign of velocity changes alternatively from positive to negative and every time its magnitude decreases. It is an example of a ball falling freely from a height and rebound multiple times and eventually comes to rest.

The graph (c) shows a sudden increase in the acceleration with short interval of time. It is an example of a batsman hitting a ball with a bat.
