Food preservatives :

  • To prevent any microorganism from growing in food due to leaving food open for a continuous period of time chemicals are used.
  • These chemicals are known as Food preservatives
  • This growth relatively weakens the nature of food and it becomes unhealthy
  • These preservatives prevent microbial infection in the food.

Examples :

  • Sodium benzoate and Sodium meta bisulfate are the common chemicals to check the growth of microorganisms.
  • Chemicals like Nitrite, Butylated hydroxy anisol (BHA), Butylated hydroxyl toluene (BHT), Tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ), vinegar, Citric acid, and calcium propionate are used to preserve food materials.
