In vitro clonal propagation technique is used to produce virus-free healthy plant from a diseased sugarcane plant. The apical tissue or bud excised from the diseased plant is used to obtain virus free plant. Apical bud is meristematic in nature, which are actively dividing cells and always they are resistant to any infection. The use of meristematic tissue to produce virus free plant is known as meristem culture.
