Separation of mixtures:

  • The process of separation of different constituents of a mixture using physical methods is known as the separation of mixtures.

The separation of the mixture of kerosene oil, water, and salt:

Separation using a separating funnel followed by the evaporation:

  • Kerosene oil and water solution are examples of two immiscible liquids.
  • They do not mix and hence form two separate layers due to the differences in their densities.
  • A separating funnel is used to separate these types of mixtures of two immiscible liquids.
  • The upper layer Is formed by the lighter liquid kerosene due to its low density and the heavier liquid (water solution ) forms the lower layer and can be separated into different containers easily.
  • Now we use the evaporation method to separate the salt from the water.

Conclusion:
Therefore, we can separate the mixture of Kerosene oil, water, and salt using a separating funnel followed by evaporation.
