Solution

Water an mercury are immiscible liquids and differ considerably in their densities and a mixture of the two can be separated by using a separating funnel.
Take the mixture in a separating funnel and allow to stand till two distinct layers are formed. The lower silver layer is mercury and the top transparent one is of water. Remove the lower mercury layer into another container.
