Inter-molecular attractive interaction in I2andCCl4

  • Van der Waals interactions are primarily responsible for these intermolecular forces.
  • Since these are non-polar molecules.
  • Thus Iodine and Tetracholoromethane will not develop partial charges and hence weak London forces exist between the two.
  • The two molecules of the same material (though electrically neutral) are brought together.
  • The nonbonding electrons of both overlap each other and result in the repulsive force due to the presence of the surface electron.

Hence, the interaction between Iodine and tetrachloromethane is Van der Waals's force.
