Sulphur disappears when boiled with an aqueous alkaline solution of sodium sulphate. Why?

When sulphur is boiled with an alkaline solution of sodium sulphate, sodium thiosulphate is formed. This product is soluble in water and hence we can observe that the sulphur disappears.
$N a_{2} S O_{3} + S \to N a_{2} S_{2} O_{3}$
