Question

Sulphur is pharamagnetic in nature at its vapour state I miss question

Open in App
Solution

Sulfur exist as S8 molecule at ordinary temperature and pressure but at elevated temperature it gets dissociated and partly exists as S2 molecule in vapor phase
In vapour state, Sulphur partly exists as S2 molecule, which has two unpaired electrons in antibinding pie orbitals, just like the O2 molecule. Hence, it exhibits paramagnetism.
