sum of number of proton, neutron and electron in 12g of carbon atom is

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

Mass of C = 12g

No. of moles = MassMolar Mass = 12 g12 g/mol = 1 mol

Therefore, 12 g of C will have 6.022 x 1023 atoms

We know, Atomic Number = No. of Protons

So, No. of Protons = 6

Now, No. of Electrons = No. of Protons = 6

Mass Number = No. of (Protons+ Neutrons)

No. of Neutrons = Mass Number - No. of Protons = 12 - 6 = 6

Therefore, it has 6 each of electrons, protons and neutrons

Therefore,
No. of Electrons in 12g of C atoms = 6 x 6.022 x 1023 = 36.132 x 1023

No. of Protrons in 12g of C atoms = 6 x 6.022 x 1023 = 36.132 x 1023

No. of Neutrons in 12g of C atoms = 6 x 6.022 x 1023 = 36.132 x 1023

So, the sum of Protons, Neutrons and Electrons = 3 x (36.132 x 1023)

= 108.396 x 1023 or 1.084 x 1025
