Let the present age of manish $= x$ & savita $= y$
$x + y = 31 - (i) x - 3 = 4 (y - 3) - (i i) \Rightarrow x - 3 = 4 y - 12 \Rightarrow x = 4 y - 9$

Putting in $(i)$ , we get

$5 y - 9 = 31 \Rightarrow 5 y = 40 \Rightarrow y = 8 \Rightarrow x = 31 - 8 \Rightarrow x = 23$

$\Rightarrow$ Present age of manish $= 23$ years
$\Rightarrow$ Present age of savita $= 8$ years
