Question

Sun rays are incident on a concave mirror parallel to its principal axis. If the image of the sun is formed at 12 cm distance from a pole of the mirror. Find its radius of curvature.

Open in App
Solution

Since the rays are parallel to the principal axis, the object is taken to be at infinity and the image is formed at the focus.
Thus, the focal length of the concave mirror is f=10 cm
We know that R=2f, where R is the radius of curvature.
Thus, the radius of curvature of the concave mirror is
R=2×12=24 cm
