Sunlight falls on the roof of a closed house.
After some time, the floor of the house gets warm.
After some more time, a man sitting on a wooden chair inside the house feels the air getting warmer.
How is the heat transferred in each case?
There is vacuum in space. So the heat from the Sun cannot be transferred through conduction or convection. Hence, the roof of the house gets heated by the radiation from sun.
The roof is connected to the floor of the house through the walls, all of which are solids. So, the heat reaches floor by conduction.
Now when the air inside the house meets the roof, walls and floors, it also gets heated. Ultimately, the person inside the room feels warm because of the heat convection of the air.
