Solution

The correct option is D

12-12

Explanation for correct option

Determining the value of a

Given, a,b,c are in A.P.

2b=a+c1

Also, a2,b2,c2 are in G.P.

b2=±ac2

and,

a+b+c=323

Substituting equation 1 in equation 3:

we get,

2b+b=324

b=12

Substituting b=12 in the above equations,

1a+c=12ac=±14

Hence, a linear equation can be formed having roots a&c

x2-(sumoftheroots)x+(productoftheroots)=0

x2-x+14=0andx2-x-14=0

4x2-4x+1=0and4x2-4x-1=0

Therefore the two equations are,

4x2-4x+1=0&4x2-4x-1=0

Solving the equations simultaneously we get,

x=12-12 or x=12+12

a=12-12

Hence, the correct answer is Option (D).
