Suppose there is a hot plate (tawa) on a stove, and a cube of ice id placed on it. What do you think will happen? If another ice cube is kept very close to the hot plate, but not in contact with it, what fo you think will differ from the earlier situation? What would remain the same?

Yes there is difference between ice cube 1 and 2 .The ice cube on the pan changes it's state faster than the ice which is closer to pan.
in first case heat is transfered by conduction in second case the heat is transfered by convection
conduction is the transfer of heat energy by direct contact, convection is the movement of heat by actual motion of matter;
