Question

Suppose you have taken a dilute solution of oleic acid in such a way that its concentration becomes 0.01 cm3 of oleic acid per cm3 of the solution. Then you make a thin film of this solution (monomolecular thickness) of area 4 cm2 by considering 100 spherical drops of radius(340π)13×103 cm. Then the thickness of oleic acid layer will be x×1014 m where x is

Solution

Volume of film = Area of film × thickness
Also from the question, Volume of film = Volume of 100 spherical drops
So, Volume of film = Area of film × thickness ×Volume of 100 spherical drops

So, 4t=100×43πr3
where t is the thickness of the solution.
4t=100×4π3×340π×109
t=1084 cm=25×1012 m

Now, thickness of oleic acid layer:
t0=0.01t ( concentration of oleic acid is 0.01 cm3 per 1 cm3)

t0=25×1014 m=x×1014 m
x=25
