Surface tension of a liquid does not depend on the surface area. It depends on temperature, intermolecular force and solute dissolved in liquid. Sparingly soluble salts and surface active substances decrease the surface tension of the liquid, however, the fairly soluble solutes increase the surface tension of the liquid.
Note:
Surface tension of a liquid is zero at critical point. The surface tension of a liquid decreases with increase of temperature and becomes zero at its critical temperature (where the surface of separation between liquid and its vapour disappears).
