Sushama took 2 beakers. In the first beaker she dissolved common salt and petrol and in the second beaker she dissolved common salt and Water. She observed that the contents do not dissolve in beaker 1. Why?
The contents in beaker 1 do not dissociate.
NaCl is an ionic compound which does not dissociate in the organic compounds. So when an ionic compound comes in water its positive part is surrounded by negative oxygen and negative part by positively charged hydrogen so it becomes soluble, but in the organic compounds, there is no hydrogen bonding, no surrounding of different charges and ultimately no solubility.
