Tahir measured the distance around a square field as 200 rods (lathi). Later he found that the length of this rod was 140 cm. Find the side of this field in metre.

Given, total distance around a square field = 200 rods

and 1 rod = 140 cm

Total distance around a square field = Perimeter of square field

$\Rightarrow$ 200 = 4$\times$Side

$\Rightarrow$ $\frac{200}{4}=\frac{4\times Side}{4}$ [dividing both sides by 4 ]

$\Rightarrow$ side = 50 rods

$\because$ 1 rod = 140 cm

$\therefore$ 50 rods = 50 $\times$140 = 7000 cm

1 m = 100 cm
1 cm= $\frac{1}{100}$ cm

Therefore,

$7000cm=\frac{7000}{100}m=70m$

Hence, the side of the field is 70 m.
