Take a clean glass bottle. Place an iron nail in it. Fill the bottle completely with boiled water and at once close it firmly with a lid. Observe the nail after 7 days. Has it rusted? Why or why not?

1. Rusting of iron is takes place in the presence of oxygen.

2. Boiled water contains no oxygen and when the lid is closed firmly, no scope is left for external air to enter.

3. Thus, rusting of iron does not take place in the presence of boiled water.
