Taking NaCI as an example of an ionic compound and CCI4 as an example of a molecular compound, give two differ­ences between ionic and molecular compounds.

  • Ionic compounds are formed by the transfer of electrons while molecular compounds are formed by sharing of electrons.

For example- In NaCl, Na transferred one electron to Cl and In CCl4, C and Cl shared their electron.

  • Types of bonds that exist in molecular compounds are covalent bonds while in Ionic compounds, they have ionic bonds.

NaCl- There is an ionic bond between Na and Cl but In CCl4, there is a covalent bond present between C and Cl.
