Cells on our tongue that receive stimulation of taste are known as
taste buds
Cells on our tongue that can detect taste are called as taste buds. These taste receptor cells are basically chemoreceptors (receptors that detect chemicals). These cells are located on top of small structures known as papillae found on the upper surface of the tongue. There are different types of papillae and these structures are involved in detecting taste (except for the filiform papillae).
