Bairam Khan was Humayun's favourite officer and confidante, who served as Akbar's tutor as well as regent (wazir) of the kingdom with the title of Khan-i-Khanan, remaining at the helm of affairs of the Mughal empire.
In 1605 AD, Akbar died of dysentery and was buried at Sikandra (near Agra).
