The object of the Sargent plan was to create in India in a period of not less than forty years, the same standard of educational attainments as had already been admitted in England.
Sargent Plan of Education (1944) is also known as the National Scheme for Education.
One of its recommendations was to provide free, universal and compulsory education for children between the age group of 6 to 11 years.
It recommended that the medium of instruction in all High Schools should be the mother- tongue of the pupils. English should be a compulsory second language.
