Translocation of food from leaves to other parts of the plants occurs though the vascular tissue known as phloem. The translocation occurs in sieve tubes with the help of adjacent companion cells in both upward and downward directions using the energy derived from the sugar molecules.
Besides sugar, phloem also transports amino acids and other substances to necessary parts of the plant.
