Question

<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}--> Find the gravitational potential energy of a 1 kg mass kept at a height of 5 m above the ground. Calculate its kinetic energy when it falls and hits the ground. (take g=10 m/s²)

Open in App
Solution

Given
mass , m = 1 kg
Height, h = 5 m
g= 10 m/s²
Gravitational Potential Energy = ??
Kinetic Energy = ?
Gravitational potential energy = ( m g h )
Gravitational potential energy = ( 1 × 10 × 5 ) = 50 J
When the mass just before hits the ground, by conservation of energy , all its potential energy is converted to kinetic energy.
Kinetic energy just before hitting the ground = 50 J
