Solution
The correct option is B The oxidation states of chromium in CrO2−4and Cr2O2−7 are not the same. Cr3+ ion has d3 configuration (t32ge0g) which makes Cr3+ stable by providing crystal field stabilisation energy. Thus, Cr2+ ion can easily change to Cr3+ (i.e. get oxidised) and acts as a strong reducing agent CrO2−4
Oxidation state of Cr x+(−8)=−2x=+6
Cr2O2−7
Oxidation state of Cr 2x+(−14)=−2x=+6
Option (c) will be the answer
