Question

<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}--> What is the effect of pressure on the boiling point of water and explain?

Open in App
Solution

When the pressure is applied on the surface of the water, the water molecules that are escaping from the surface got pushed and hence more energy is required to escape from the surface of the water. Therefore, the boiling point of water increases as the pressure increases. Similarly, when pressure is decreased, less energy is needed to escape from the surface. Hence, the boiling point of water decreases as the pressure decreases.
