Solution

<!--td {border: 1px solid #ccc;}br {mso-data-placement:same-cell;}--> The olfactory epithelium has a mucus layer that transports water soluble odour molecules. The non-water soluble odour molecules are transported with the help of odour binding proteins. These molecules then activate the chemoreceptors which send signals to the brain to detect smell.
