It is easier to lay down railway lines in flatlands of the Northern Plains. Uttar Pradesh is part of the Northern plains and hence has the favourable conditions to lay down railway lines. It is not easy in Himachal Pradesh because the terrain is hilly. The sandy plains of western Rajasthan and the swamps of Gujarat like Rann of Kachch pose obstacles for the establishment of railways.
