It requires hot and humid climate and 150-250 cm of rainfall .There are more than 100 species of coffee but only a few are grown commercially. Coffea robusta (or Coffea canephora) and Coffea arabica (>60% in India) are grown in India. Others are Coffea liberica (from Liberia), Coffea charrieriana (from cameroon) and Mocha Coffee (from Yemen). India produces around 4%of world coffee production and out of this 99%is produced in 3 southern states of karnataka,kerala and Tamil Nadu.
