Tears are secreted by the lacrimal glands that are present on the underside of the upper eyelid. Tears have the capability to kill bacteria in the eyes. Tears have lysozyme, an enzyme, as a constituent. Lysozyme is an antibacterial substance which can kill germs. Apart from killing germs, they have the following functions: they lubricate the surface of the eye, wash away dust particles and communicate emotion, help in killing germs. Whereas, eyelashes prevent the falling of larger particles in the eye.
